| Amy Kaul Native American Themed Collage |
|
| Amy Kaul was born in Whitewater and grew up in the southern Wisconsin area. In 1986 Amy sold everything she owned including her home, and moved to California. She settled into an artist community of Escondido and opened a frame shop. She did a lot of framing for the artists that occupied studios in the same building as her framing business in Studio 10.
Amy has been called a “Natural Artist” as she started making her art using natural fibers, twigs, gourds, feathers, etc...One day when all the other artists were off doing shows, Amy decided to try her hand at painting. She showed one of the artists when they returned, and he said nothing, but took the painting and literally ran around the building showing all the other resident artists. They were impressed, yet puzzled why she never mentioned that she painted. Amy has always been very quiet about her talents and is still the same today.
Amy would sometimes shatter a pot that she painted to include it with the drawings of them. She also credits the Native American artists who inspired her art on the back of her pieces.
Other inspiration for her pots came from artist, Robert Rivera. Her love of the Native American culture and art comes through in her drawings and paintings. She has shown her gourds, drawings and paintings in galleries throughout the Southwest and California. Amy’s art is represented by Galleria Santa Fe, Encinitas, CA; Paulo Cheong Gallery, San Francisco, CA and in the Glidden Gallery, Chester, CA.
She has also shown in galleries in Northern Wisconsin. All of her pots/gourds now reside in private collections in England, Europe and the Middle East, as her art has an International appeal.
Today Amy is back in native Wisconsin to be closer to her family. She as 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
